英文的介系詞常常讓人非常頭痛，主要的原因是因為中文沒有介系詞的概念，在英文裡面有三種動詞後面會有介系詞的狀況：(1) 動詞為『不及物動詞』，意思就是如果這個動詞需要加一個受詞時，一定會有一個介系詞，例如：talk + to + 人，I am talking to you. 我們不能直接說 (X)I am talking you. (X) ，這種狀況下就出現了很討人厭的『固定用法collocation』，這是指動詞後面加的介系詞會因詞而異，甚至會有＋不同的介系詞就會有不同的意思的狀況，而這些多數沒有規則，只能靠背起來，所以Joanna才會一直跟大家說，學英文要學句子，這樣才能把用法一起學起來。
第二種狀況(2) ：該動詞為『動詞片語』，這是指某些字會固定搭配一個介系詞並呈現特別的意思，譬如說 look 是『看』但look for 是『尋找』 look after 是『照顧』而look up to 是『崇拜』，這些看似跟前者的不及物動詞很像，但通常我們在背的時候都會整組背，譬如說我們背前面talk 這個字的時候，通常不會背『talk to』 但是我們如果不記look for 這樣的動詞片語，那要講『尋找』時，就不會想起這個字，因為look本身跟尋找並沒有太大的關聯。
第三種狀況(3) ：當動詞後面需要接另一個動詞，該句又不是有連接詞或子句的狀況時，我們會需要『不定詞to V』。
例如： He wants to buy a house. 這邊的want動詞後面又需要加一個動詞buy這時第二個動詞就要變成不定詞。有花比較多時間學英文的同學會知道另一個跟不定詞相對的概念- 動名詞（Ving），要特別注意某些動詞會固定接to V 另一些則會固定接 Ving 甚至有兩種都可以接的狀況（但意思有差異）。
而今天的這篇文章針對的是前述兩種狀況。
1. Adapt + to + n/v. 使適應不同情況（或用途）
例句：Many software companies have adapted popular programs to the new operating system.
許多軟體公司已經改編了常用的程式以適應新的作業系統。
l adapt 也可以+ from 表示『改編至、改善至某東西』的意思
例句：The recipe here is a pork roast adapted from Caroline O'Neill's book.
這道菜是根據Caroline O’Neill的書中烤豬肉的做法改進而來的。
2. Add + to + N.增加；添加
例句：She's added a Picasso to her collection.
她的收藏中增添了一幅畢卡索的畫作。
3. Agree + to + V.（對建議或想法表示）同意，贊成，贊同
例句：The bank has agreed to lend me £5,000.
銀行同意貸給我5000英鎊。
l Agree + with + 人 同意某人的意思
例句：I agree with you on this issue.在這個問題上我贊同你的意見。
l Agree + on/about + 事務
例句：I agree on the terms. 我同意這些條款
4. Apologize + to + 人 對…道歉
例句：I must apologize to Sarah for my impatience.
我必須因為我的不耐煩而向Sarah道歉
l Apologize + for + 事物 為…道歉
例句：She apologized profusely for having to leave at 3.30 p.m.
她必須在下午三點半離開，對此她再三表示歉意。
5. Belong + to + 人 歸…所有
例句：This book belongs to Sarah.
這本書是莎拉的。
l Belong + to + 事物 是…的一員
例句：They belong to the same chess club.
他們參加同一個象棋俱樂部。
6. Consent + to + V/N 同意；答應；許可，允許
例句：Very reluctantly, I've consented to lend her my laptop.
我很不情願地答應把筆電借給她。
例句：Cindy never married because her father wouldn't consent to her marriage. Cindy終生未嫁，因爲她父親不同意她的婚事。
7. Devote + sth. + to + sth./sb. 奉獻
例句：She has devoted all her life to the care of the homeless.
她為照料無家可歸者傾注了全部奉獻了一生。
8. Happen + to + 人/物 某事發生在某人/物身上
例句：I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to him.
我不知道一旦他出了事我該怎麽辦
l 特別注意，happen 這個字不會用在被動語態，所以不能說：I was happened an accident. 要改成 An accident happened to me.
l happen to + V 偶然，碰巧，剛好 {此為動詞片語}
例句：They happened to look in the right place almost immediately.
他們碰巧幾乎一下就找對了地方。
9. Lead to + sth. 導致，引起 {此為動詞片語}
例句：Reducing speed limits should lead to fewer deaths on the roads.
降低限速可以減少交通死亡人數
10. Listen + to + sth. 聽
例句：What kind of music do you listen to?你聽哪一類的音樂？
例句：I like to listen to classical music especially when I am studying.
我特別喜歡在讀書時聽古典樂
11. Object + to + sth. 反對
例句：I object to the idea that women shouldn’t be allowed to serve in the military.
我反對女生不該被允許從軍的這件事
l 我們常用 object to + idea 想法 / premise 假定 / notion 觀念 / maxim 行為準則
12. React + to + sth. 反應；作出回應
例句：The judge reacted angrily to the suggestion that it hadn't been a fair trial.
有人說審判不公正，法官對此很憤怒。
l 我們會用react + against + sth. 表示反對某事物
13. Refer + to + sb/sth提到，談及，談起
例句：In her autobiography she occasionally refers to her unhappy schooldays.
在其自傳中，她偶爾提及了她不快樂的學生時代。
14. Reply + to + sb/sth 回覆
例句：I try to reply to letters the day I receive them.
我試著在收到信的當天就回信
l reply 也可以當名詞使用
例句：In reply to their questions, she just shrugged.
面對他們的問題，她只是聳了聳肩，沒作任何回答。
例句：There were very few replies to our advertisement.
我們的廣告沒有得到甚麽回應。
15. Speak + to + sb. 說話，談話；說 (常見英式用法)
例句："Can I speak to Sam please?"「請問Sam在嗎？」
l 在美式用法比較常用with
例句："Can I speak with Scott please?"「請問Scott在嗎？」
例句：If he tells Rita what I said, I'll never speak to him again.
如果他把我說的話告訴Rita，我就再也不和他說話。
l speak to sb. 也有責備（某人）；告誡（某人）的意思 {此為動詞片語}
例句：The manager promised that she would speak to the person responsible.
經理答應說，她會告誡當事人的。
16. Talk + to + sb. 和…說話
例句：She talks to her mother on the phone every week.她每週都跟母親通電話。
l Talk at + sb. (不顧對方如何反應）而大發議論，滔滔不絕地說 {此為動詞片語}
例句：What discussion? You weren't talking to me, you were talking at me!
那是什麼討論？你不是在跟我交談，一直都是你在說，根本不容我說！
17. Turn to + sth. （尤指因不開心）開始使用（不好之物）， 開始做（不當之事）
{此為動詞片語}
例句：She turned to drugs after the break-up of her marriage.
她婚姻破裂後開始吸毒。
l Turn + to + sb./sth. 也可以指『求助於』{此為動詞片語}
例句：Without someone to turn to for advice, making the most appropriate choice can be difficult.
在沒有人可以徵求意見的情況下，要作出最恰當的選擇可能會很難。
* 這邊的for 是表示『為了』，為了意見而求助於他人的意思
例句：Her family lived a long way away, and she had no one to turn to.
她的家人住得很遠，她無人可以求助。
l Turn attention/focus to sth. 將（注意力等）轉移到…上
例句：I'd like us now to turn our attention to next year's budget.
我希望我們大家現在把注意力放在明年的預算上。
l turn to + sth. 注意、關注
例句：We're now going to turn to an issue that concerns us all - racism.
我們現在要開始關注一個與我們所有人都相關的問題——種族主義。
